Initially staying with renowned eventer Nicola Wilson in Yorkshire, Sophia and her family later moved to Dorset to reside with fellow Australian Chris Burton. This strategic relocation wasn't solely about training; it was also about creating a supportive environment for her young family.
"My husband is a farrier at home but can’t work here because of visas, so he’s been full time looking after Oliver, and my mum has come over to help too," Sophia explained. This anecdote underscores the crucial role of family support in her career.
From Stock Horse to Star
At the heart of Sophia's success is her horse, Humble Glory, affectionately known as Hughie. Initially, Hughie was an unimpressive racehorse and later used for stock work before being discovered by Sophia. Spotting his potential for jumping, Sophia transformed him into a top-level athlete. Within 18 months of acquiring him, Hughie won the Australian Young Rider Championship at Adelaide 3*** and has since accumulated multiple 4**** wins, qualifying him for 5 Star level events.
Competitive Milestones
Sophia's UK competitive itinerary has been nothing short of impressive. She competed at Bicton and Bramham, with Bramham standing out as a particular highlight. Additionally, she was a reserve for the Paris Olympics, further solidifying her status as a formidable eventer.
At Burghley, Sophia performed her dressage test on Friday morning, scoring 36.9 on Humble Glory. Despite dressage being Hughie's least favorite phase, Sophia was relieved by what was his best score since arriving in England.

Sophia's excitement about tackling this course was palpable: "Burghley is spectacular. The course is huge but amazing. I’ve never seen anything quite like the Leaf Pit, but I am excited to tackle it."

I only have two horses here, and I can’t count how many I have at home. I usually compete with a team of horses, so with just two, we haven't known what to do with ourselves. It’s been quite easy to have a baby alongside!"
