When a leather item is starting to be used, small cracks and splits will start to appear in the leather. These splits will allow water, dirt, grime, grease and sweat to get into the leather.

This will weaken and damage the fibres in the leather which will cause the leather to crack and split so much that it will be beyond repair. However with a good care and militance routine this can be avoided.

If leather is properly maintained it can remain functional, supple and in good condition for many years and importantly retain its value if you do ever come to re-sell the item.

How the saddle and/or bridle is finished will determine how that item should be cared for. As a general rule when cleaning. As a general rule when cleaning, conditioning and oiling, always follow the manufacturer’s guidelines.
